Abstract

The Lower Cretaceous volcano-sedimentary suite of the Alisitos Formation in Arroyo La Bocana is formed by 2,000 m of interstratified biohermal limestones, shales, graywackes, lava flows and pyroclastic rocks. This paper is referred to geochemistry of the major elements, clinopyroxenes and trace elements in the volcanogenic material of the Alisitos Formation.

The concentrations of major elements show that the analyzed lava flows are predominantly dacites, rhyodacites and rhyolites with minor amounts of basalts and andesites. Titanium, magnesium and total iron confronted with the differentiation index show that the studied material is characteristic of calc-alkaline suites and is corroborated by the position of the rock samples in the alkalies/silica and A.F.M. diagrams of Kuno (1959 and 1968)... In order to continue, download the full paper in PDF.
