Abstract

In this paper fertile and sterile fronds of Asterotheco meriani (Brongniart) Stur are described and illustrated. It is a fossil fern of the Asterothecaceae family, originally described from the Upper Triassic of Lunz, Austria. Asterotheca is a fossil genus abundant in the upper Paleozoic that persisted during the Triassic. Frond fragments of other genera are present also. The material described comes from the basal part of the Huizachal Formation of Late Triassic age, from a locality along the Tlahualompa-San Mateo road on the border of the States of Hidalgo and Veracruz.
