Abstract

In the Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas area, the core of the Huizachal-Peregrina Anticlinorium is formed by gneiss, quartzite, schist and serpentinite, which are followed by some 1,500 m Middle Silurian-Permian non-metamorphosed fossiliferous marine sedimentary rocks. Two unconformities within the Paleozoic sedimentary sequence indicate deformation during Late Mississippian and Late Pennsylvanian times.

The accumulation of redbeds (2,000 m) during the Late Triassic-Early Jurassic (?) has taken place under taphrogenic conditions, which were followed by slight uparching and erosion. The Upper Jurassic-Upper Cretaceous sedimentary sequence, which is some 2,400 m thick and consists mainly of carbonate and flysch deposits, underwent principal defonnation during early Eocene time, which produced the anticlinorium...
